What You Can Learn From a
Background Check
There are many misconceptions surrounding
background checks and the type of information that they will provide. Before
you purchase a background check, it is a good idea to have a complete
understanding of the results that you will receive. Here’s a brief glimpse
at what our background checks provide.
Correct Name and Possible Aliases. The majority of background checks will
return with the complete name of the person, as well as any known aliases.
This is very useful whether you are running the background check on an
applicant, or a personal friend. If they have used several aliases in the
past, you’ll be able to get a better idea of their history and you may be
able to run further checks for more information.
Case Numbers and the Date, Location and Type of Offense. If the person has a
criminal record, typically, you will receive the actual case number, as well
as the date and type of the offense. Additional information may even include
the location where the offense took place.
Sentencing Information. In the event that the person has a criminal record
and was found guilty, you’ll be able to get their sentencing information, as
well as the actual dates for the sentence and any parole information that is
available.
Their Current Status. If the person is currently on parole, you’ll be able
to see how long this will last, or if they have already passed their parole
deadline. Any current offenses, or parole violations may also be listed.
This is very useful for employers who are trying to determine the reason for
gaps in an employment history.
Our searches also include a sex-offender check, but if you live in the
following states, you will not be able to access this information: CA, MO,
NV, OR, RI and WA. Otherwise, you’ll be able to have various sex offender
registries searched in addition to our standard background check. This is
incredibly useful if you are running a background check on a significant
other.
Our Nationwide Plus check provides the above information, plus it offers a
more comprehensive search of several states as well as a search through
Federal records. Information from this type of report may include criminal
records that are not collected by individual states, but rather the Federal
government. This is a recommended search if you have no idea of someone’s
background and you want to make sure that you are getting the most detailed
report possible. Keep in mind that federal offenses usually carry a penalty
of at least one year in jail and are considered quite serious. These
offenses are generally classified as felonies and it is very useful to
collect this additional information.
In order for the most accurate results for any of our searches, you will
need to make sure that you have the person’s full name, including their
first, middle and last name. Their date of birth is also essential to ensure
that you are getting the correct results.
